imprints was established by Matthew Tyson in 1984 for promoting and publishing of artists’ books. Since then, joined by Isabella Oulton in 1991, imprints has published books by numerous leading international artists and writers including François Morellet, Bruce McLean, Jerome Rothenberg, Gottfried Honegger and Jacques Jouet.

In 1990 imprints began publishing prints under the imprint KA! Editions and has since worked with Peter Downsbrough, Frank Badur, Heiner Thiel, Kim Lim, Yuko Shiraishi and David Rabinowitch, amongst others.

Writers and artists are invited to work with imprints on a collaborative basis using the relief printing and etching facilities at the imprints studio in South Eastern France. Artists are encouraged to work in way which most closely mirrors their usual working practice and often use unorthodox techniques including printing without the use of a press.

Matthew Tyson and Isabella Oulton also work as consultants for the production of artists’ books, for the organisation of exhibitions and fairs. They teach at numerous institutions worldwide.

imprints books and prints can be found in public collections around the world, including TheVictoria & Albert Museum (London), The Tate Gallery (London), The Musée Nationale d'Art Moderne (Paris), The Bibliothèque Nationale de France (Paris) The Museum of Modern Art (New York), The New York Public Library, The Library of Congress (Washington DC), The Herzog August Bibliothek (Wolfenbüttel), The Kupferstichkabinett, Berlin, The Bibliotheca Nazionale Centrale (Florence) The Museum van het Boek Meermano-Westreenanium (Den Hague) and The Kodak Collection (Tokyo).
